What is a Relay team?     (and Ultra Runner)
A relay team for the Tusseymountainback 50 mile race is a group of runners ranging from (2) to (8) runners in size.  The 50 mile course is divided into 12 predetermined legs or segments with each member of the team running his or her assigned race leg or segments.  The remaining team members travel from transition point to transition point in a team support vehicle.  A baton is passed from team member to team member at each leg's transition point.

The race legs range from 3.8 miles to 6.2 miles with difficulty levels of easy, moderate and hard. The typical eight-runner team requires four runners to relay two legs each and four of the runners to relay one leg each; making the relay team entry acceptable for novice runners as well as challenging for the veteran runners.

Below is are the predetermined runner rotations for each of the different size relay teams.
